[27-NOV-2018] #OviWatch, #BackstromWatch, etc.
#OviWatch
Last night, Ovi scored an empty net goal to tie Joe Sakic and Jarome Iginla for 15th overall. Given his torrid rate of scoring - 18 goals in 24 games this season - he is on pace to score 61 goals this year, which actually puts Luc Robataille in reach, if he keeps it up. Although he is currently in 4th place for the Rocket Richard trophy, I believe that race is not yet over, and that Ovi will take the lead some time in January and never look back. The man is a goal-scoring machine!
Next up is Dave Andreychuk, with 640 goals in 1639 games played.

#BackstromWatch
Last night, Nicklas Backstrom scored his 22nd assist of the season, in 24 games played. With 6 goals, Backstrom is better than a point-per-game player this season so far. His three assists last night put his career total at 612, good for 82nd overall. 827 points puts him in sole possession of 2nd in the franchise for points (behind only Ovechkin)! He is 147th overall in the points category.

[23-OCT-2018] #OviWatch and #BackstromWatch
As-promised, I'll not be posting on a game day again...
Last night in Vancouver, Ovi scored two more goals, bringing his career total to 615, and his total on the season to 8 goals in 8 games, sliding him up to 6th place on the very young season. Auston Matthews remains at the top of this season's scoring ladder, but if Ovi keeps it up, he will catch and surpass the young centerman. Here's where Ovi stands all-time. Still in 17th, but creeping up on Iginla and Sakic in all-time goal-scoring, career.
01 - Wayne Gretzky - 894 G in 1487 GP +279

One of Ovi's two goals last night came on the power play, putting him in sole possession of 9th all time for power play goals. His next will tie him with Marcel Dionne; three will tie him with Mario Lemieux.

Another stat for us to track... multi-goal games! With two goals last night, Ovi moved himself into sole possession of 5th overall. He is the highest ranking active player in multi-goal games:
1 - Brett Hull - 158 MGG
2 - Teemu Selanne - 131 MGG
3 - Jaromir Jagr - 127 MGG
4 - Mario Lemieux - 124 MGG
5 - Alex Ovechkin - 123 MGG
As a side note, Wayne Fucking Gretzky only had 60 career multi-goal games in his career in the NHL??! How is that even possible??? *ahem*
*** OK, update *** Since 1987-1988. THAT makes a whole lot more sense! Looking for the full list somewhere...
On to other accomplishments!
Ovi's best sidekick, Nicklas Backstrom, scored assists last night, taking him to a career total of 601 and moving him into a tie with Glenn Anderson on the all-time assist leaderboard at 86th. Backy did it in 823 games to Anderson's 1,129, too. Last season, Backstrom had 50 assists. If he has 45 this year, he will move up the ladder as well... of course, he has 11 in 8 games played (!!!) so 45 should easily be within reach, barring injury (God forbid!) and he could wind up with more than that... time will, of course, tell, but here's Nicky's place in the all-time assist leaderboard. There are, of course, some active players ahead of him... but none ahead right this minute, and none other than Hossa, Zetterberg, and Getzlaf in reach this season, realistically.
